Securing Your Home – The Case For Electronic Entry Locks   by Emily Taggart

Clearly, home security is vital to homeowners. Not only do they want to avoid the risk of losing their possessions but they don’t want to be attacked, perhaps even critically injured. As security techniques have evolved, electronic entry locks have become extremely popular.

They make homes far more secure than locks which require keys. Because many styles don’t have exterior keyholes, they can’t be picked, by professional criminals or even professional locksmiths. Homeowners in the know prefer them far more than locks which require keys – for a whole host of reasons.

Perhaps you already carry around far too many keys, including keys to your office, auto, gym lockers, filing cabinets and more. Do you really need the bother of yet another key? Electronic entry locks are far more convenient.

You no longer have to search through a mass of keys to find the one that unlocks your home’s door. It can be dangerous to stand in front of your door while you search through your keys. You could be easy prey for a criminal driving down your street who notices you fumbling around with your keys.

Electronic entry locks also don’t leave behind keys which can be lost or stolen. After losing a house key, how many people have to change their locks? But with an electronic key lock, the only way to unlock the door is to use a special pin code.

That ups your security level significantly. If you live in a neighborhood which is in transition, with some dangerous or marginally safe areas nearby, you’ll want to get in and out of your home as quickly as possible. Electronic key locks allow you to do just that.

There are basically three main types of electronic entry locks, also known as digital locks. biometric locks are very high tech and use your voice, fingerprints or even the retinas of your eyes to ensure that you are the homeowner or other person allowed access to your home. Obviously, they offer a high level of security.

Another type of lock is the standard keypad which comes with letters or numbers as part of that keypad. You must use a very specific set of letters or numbers to get into your home. The only risk with these is if a child or other family member shares the code with another person. However, children can easily be taught to follow safety rules.

Finally, there is the fob style of electronic entry locks. This variation has the advantage of allowing users to select different codes or electronic signals for individual family members or office workers. Each person has a different signal or code to get into the home or office.

Some doors can be locked on the inside by simply pushing a button and walking out the door. If you’re in a hurry, you can lock your door, walk to your car and suddenly realize you’ve just locked yourself out of your home. What a pain!

Again, electronic locks mean you never have to be left stranded outside your home with no easy way to gain access. You don’t want to break a window or wait for a professional residential locksmith to arrive. You want to get into your home as quickly as possible. If you’re locked out in snowy weather, you might have to huddle in your car until someone arrives.

Do you know someone – or are you one of those people – who sometimes leaves hidden keys outside? You may think you’ve got that key in a secure place but there is always the risk that a burglar can find it. They know all about fake rocks with hidden compartments for keys.

They always check under doormats, behind furniture and the top of the door frame. Gaining access to your home is particularly easy if criminals are driving down the street and notice you or another family member picking up the key from your “hidden” spot.

Electronic locks completely eliminate that risk. If you want a secure, user friendly and convenient way to quickly enter and exit your home, electronic entry locks are the only way to go.
