Transportation of Goods worldwide using Containers by Jim Cherry
The use of standardized reusable steel containers for the transportation of freight in a safe, secure and efficient manner constitutes an intermodal shipping container. Whether the transport is of road, rail or waterway intermodal means that without the need for unloading or reloading the containers are moved with ease. The general material of shipping containers is corrugated weathered steel which are 20ft or 40ft in length and 8ft in height. They can even be stacked up to seven units high as they have twist locking fasteners at the edges for safe transportation. With rising demands containers in the US now are built longer at 48- 53ft.
Modern shipping containers are built with key changes in design like the hull is built around a strong keel. Into this frame, below-deck cargo holds are one or more in number. They have hatch covers onto which more containers can be stacked. They are categorized into seven types ranging from small feeders to ultra-large containers. Some of these containers have cargo cranes installed on them.
Similar containers are used for different purposes all over the world. Storage containers are built along the same principles of strong steel or aluminum bodied units with dual locking cam bars on each door so that padlocks can be put in four different places for additional safety. Sometimes the padlock is placed inside a steel box to avoid tampering.
These are of multiple use from hired as storage container rental for space to store inventory that cannot be accommodated in offices or factory warehouses. They are also hired as temporary offices when your office is being renovated or expanded. Instant and inexpensive space can be rented by using the storage containers as living and housing for staff and labor on work sites. Portable storage container rental are easy to use as trailers that can be parked in parks or community playgrounds and used as houses for people who live a nomadic existence. They are easy to load to fit on standard sized motor vehicles which are 20ft in length. Such container rentals are designed and refurbished according to customer whims and exactly mimic a home on the move. With patented tri cam locking devices they are as safe as a bank locker.
A wheeled storage container has the portability of wheels and the security of a storage container with the chassis allowing for adding a ramp or steps as needed. Such rentals are offered on short term or long term leases and suit budgets of individual home owners or business entities according to size and specific needs.
